I am a big fan of this blog and have been reading it for years. I have compiled a list of all the newest lesson plans submitted to this site, so you can find the one that's going to be best for your class. There are lessons on anything from dinosaurs, to hobbies, and even a lesson on Christmas. You'll know if you need a lesson "on Christmas" if your students keep asking why there isn't any snow in December. There are lessons of all subjects, so once you go through this list, look at the others. As of Dec. 2012 this site is definitely down. Here is a copy of the new lesson plan I put together for my 4th grade class: 1. The All-Star Teacher by Linda Darling-Hammond 2006 ISBN-13: 978-0393971079 It is a story of an athlete's journey from the classroom to the field. It is a story of passion and dedication that have led to extraordinary success in both school and sports. It is powerful story about how teachers and athletes can learn from each other. It is a story of the power of application and effort in both math and sports. It is a story of perseverance. It teaches STEM, Mathematics, English language arts, Social Studies, critical thinking and problem solving skills using sports to focus on the learning process! Athletic skill development in math is one of the most exciting applications of sport to learning. Whether it's adding up runs in baseball or coming up with a batting average in math class, students immediately relate to the conversation when they use their own experiences and interests to build that bridge between home and school. 2. Teaching Math In Sports In A New Way by David N. Allen, Gwen Brickner, and Michael D. Sanders 2007 ISBN-13: 978-0415332887 It has been said that math is "the language of sport." The teaching of math in sports depends on the individual character of the teacher as well as the character of the athlete. The authors have come up with a practical approach to teaching sports by using mathematics. This book provides insight into the curricular implications for students interested in learning more about how to analyze shapes, measure distance, time change, create equations, compare sizes and calculate speed ratios. Practical application is also provided with examples from elite athletes' experience in competition and practice settings.3. Math in Sports: Competitiveness and Technique (New Perspectives on Teaching Mathematics in Sport Series) by David N. Allen. Kenneth W. Hettem Ph.D., 1996 ISBN-10: 0879753335 4. "Math, Physics, and Sports by Jim Denny" The book is written for mathematics teachers of all levels who want to improve their teaching skills through the application of problem solving strategies related to sport. The easy-to-follow examples are designed to help math teachers understand how to design effective learning environments that encourage problem solving in the classroom, at tournaments, and on the field of play. cfa1e77820
